EZDO TDS Meter TDS5031 – Digital Water Tester
The EZDO TDS Meter TDS5031 is a portable digital instrument designed for routine measurement of Total Dissolved Solids in water and compatible liquid samples. It provides a convenient solution for users who need to monitor dissolved ionic content in drinking water, reverse-osmosis water, aquariums, fish farms, hydroponic systems, laboratories and water-treatment facilities.
Manufactured in Taiwan, this handheld meter combines a compact pen-style structure with a digital display and straightforward operation. The photographed set includes the meter, a 9V battery, standard solution, operating instructions and a protective carrying case. EZDO is associated with GOnDO Electronic, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of water-quality instruments, including pH, conductivity, TDS and dissolved-oxygen meters.
TDS Measurement Range
The EZDO TDS Meter TDS5031 provides a TDS measurement range of 0 to 9990 ppm. Its resolution is stated as 10 ppm, while the published accuracy is ±1% of full scale. These specifications make the instrument suitable for routine screening and comparative water-quality measurements rather than extremely fine analytical determinations.
TDS, or Total Dissolved Solids, represents the concentration of dissolved ionic substances present in a liquid sample. These substances may include minerals, salts and other dissolved materials that contribute to the electrical conductivity of the water.
The measured value can help users compare untreated and treated water, observe changes in filtration performance and monitor water conditions over time.
Automatic Temperature Compensation
Water temperature can influence electrical measurements. The TDS5031 includes Automatic Temperature Compensation, commonly abbreviated as ATC, to reduce the influence of temperature changes on the displayed result within the instrument’s operating conditions.
ATC is useful when testing samples collected from different environments or when water temperature changes during routine monitoring. Users should still allow the reading to stabilise before recording the final result.
Fast and Convenient Operation
The meter is designed for quick routine testing. After the electrode area is rinsed and prepared, the sensor can be inserted into the water sample. The user then waits for the digital display to stabilise before recording the result.
The portable design makes the meter practical for use at laboratory benches, water-treatment sites, fish farms, aquariums, hydroponic installations and field-testing locations.
The device also features a splash-resistant membrane keypad, helping protect the control area during normal water-testing activities. However, the complete instrument should not be immersed in water.
Extendable Electrode
One notable feature of the EZDO TDS5031 is its extendable electrode section. Published product information states that the electrode can be extended up to approximately 80 mm, allowing the sensor to reach water samples inside suitable containers.
The electrode should be extended and retracted carefully. Excessive force may damage the sliding mechanism or sensing area.
After each measurement, the electrode should be rinsed with clean or distilled water to reduce contamination between samples.
Suitable Applications
The EZDO TDS Meter TDS5031 can support routine monitoring in several environments, including:
Drinking-water screening
Tap-water comparison
Reverse-osmosis system monitoring
Purified and filtered-water testing
Aquarium water checking
Fish-farm and aquaculture monitoring
Biofloc water management
Hydroponic nutrient-solution testing
Laboratory sample measurement
Educational demonstrations
Water-treatment facilities
Industrial process-water monitoring
Cooling-water and boiler-water observation
The suitability of the meter for a particular regulated or accredited procedure should be confirmed from the applicable method and organisational requirements.
RO and Filtered-Water Monitoring
A portable TDS meter is commonly used to compare source water with water produced by an RO or filtration system. A lower or changing TDS reading may help users observe how the system is performing over time.
For consistent monitoring, users should test the water under similar conditions and record the results with the date, sample source and relevant operational information.
A TDS value alone does not identify individual dissolved substances. It should therefore be treated as a general screening result rather than a complete chemical analysis.
Aquarium and Aquaculture Use
In aquarium, fish-farm and aquaculture applications, dissolved mineral and salt concentrations may influence overall water conditions. The EZDO TDS Meter can help operators track changes between water sources, treatment stages or management periods.
TDS measurements should be considered together with other important water parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, nitrite and alkalinity.
The acceptable TDS level varies according to the aquatic species, water source and operating system. Users should follow the requirements of their particular fish or aquatic organism.
Hydroponic Applications
In hydroponic growing systems, dissolved nutrients affect the TDS or conductivity of the nutrient solution. Routine measurement can help growers observe whether the nutrient concentration is rising, falling or remaining relatively stable.
The meter should be used as part of a broader nutrient-management process. The required value depends on the plant type, growth stage, nutrient formulation and water source.

Package contents may vary between batches. Customers should verify the delivered accessories when receiving the product.
General Operating Procedure
Remove the meter from the carrying case and install the 9V battery correctly. Extend the electrode section carefully and rinse the sensing area with clean water.
Place a sufficient amount of sample water in a clean container. Insert only the permitted sensor section into the sample and move it gently to remove trapped air bubbles.
Wait until the displayed reading becomes stable. Record the result, remove the meter and rinse the electrode with clean or distilled water.
Dry the outer surface carefully before retracting the electrode and returning the device to its case.
Calibration and Performance Checking
The meter should be checked periodically with a suitable standard solution. Calibration or performance-verification frequency depends on the frequency of use, required measurement confidence, storage conditions and the organisation’s quality procedure.
Use the standard value and calibration instructions stated in the supplied operating guide. Do not adjust the meter without an appropriate standard solution.
For laboratory or quality-control applications, maintain a record of calibration date, standard-solution value and observed result.
Care and Maintenance
Keep the electrode clean and free from dried residue. Avoid touching the sensing area with fingers, abrasive materials or sharp objects.
Do not expose the instrument to strong impact, excessive heat, direct sunlight or corrosive vapour. The complete meter should not be submerged.
Remove the battery when the instrument will remain unused for an extended period. Store the meter, standard solution and accessories inside the protective carrying case in a cool and dry location.
Important Notice
The EZDO TDS Meter TDS5031 is designed for routine TDS measurement and water-quality screening. It does not directly identify bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, pesticides or individual dissolved chemicals.
For drinking-water certification, regulatory testing, medical applications or accredited laboratory reporting, appropriate chemical and microbiological methods should be used alongside properly calibrated equipment.
